[展覧会情報]新作’Arrow of Time(Unfinished Life)’をニューヨーク・メトロポリタン美術館の分館、Met Breuerにて展示しております。
「「Arrow of Time (時間の矢)」とは、イギリスの天文学者 Arthur Stanley Eddington が提唱した「時間の不可逆性」を表した言葉。
「私の Counter Gadget （数字のLEDの表示器)は、1から9とカウントしていき、”０”は表示しない。これは、「人の命の時間」を示している。カウントしているときは「生」を”０”で暗闇になる時は「死」を表し、それが繰り返される。これは仏教でいう「輪廻転生」を示し、「永遠の生命」を表徴する。また、それぞれの Counter Gadget は全て、カウントするスピードが違っている。これは、違う人種、違う宗教、違う言語、違う皮膚の色、違う文化などを持つ、差異のあるあらゆる人々の命を表している。そして、それら全ての「命の時間」が宇宙から降り注ぐシャワーのように落ちてくるイメージでインスタレーションされる。
私は、この作品で、「不可逆的な時間のシャワー」の世界の中で、様々な差異のある人々が、今この時を共に生き、この地上で出会う「命のハーモニー」を、そのような奇跡の「今」を表現したかったのである。」

Tatsuo is currently exhibiting his work at the show ‘Unfinished: Thoughts left Visible’ at The Met Breuer, NY.
His latest work ‘Arrow of Time (Unfinished Life)'(2016) is on view through September 25th.
“Arrow of Time” is a term developed by British astronomer Arthur Stanley Eddington to describe the irreversibility of time.
“In this work, the digital light-emitting diode (LED) counters, or ‘gadgets’ as I call them, count from 1 to 9, and represent the progressing time of a life. The counters never scroll to zero, as the number implies death: Instead, the light goes off for a moment. The counting then resumes in an endless cycle referring to Buddhist’s ‘Samsara’ (Metempsychosis), or eternal life. Through each counter gadget moving at a different speed, I portray the lives of individual people, with their differences in race, religion, language, skin colour, and culture.
In Arrow of Time (Unfinished Life) , I show these numbers as times of life showering down from the universe. I wish to express a vision of people of diverse backgrounds living together and interacting in this very moment, in the miraculous harmony that is life.”
